Beginner Yoga Series

Spring 2025 Session Begins April 1st

At DM Wellness & Yoga we truly believe that yoga should feel good! This series is designed to help you find a yoga practice that works for YOU! Join us for a workshop series to begin or reignite your yoga practice.

Each week, we’ll break down the structure of yoga poses, learning to modify practices for your body, and dive into the history and purpose of yoga. The group for this series will be kept intentionally small to allow for individualized support, group discussion, and building community. While programming is designed with beginners in mind, this series will provide opportunities for seasoned yogis to refine their practice by revisiting the foundational aspects of yoga asana and philosophy.

The series will run from April 1st - May 13th, with group workshops held Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00pm (4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13). The evenings of 4/22 & 5/20 will be available for make-ups/private sessions to help keep everyone on track!

What’s Included?

  • Our group will meet Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm on the following dates: 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/29, 5/6, and 5/13.

  • During the course of the series, you will have the opportunity to test out some classes from the weekly class schedule. Recommendations will be provided for which classes to choose. Each participant will get one bonus class credit every two weeks.

  • One complimentary 40-minute private session is included in this series. You can book and utilize this perk anytime before May 31st.

    All participants will also have access to 50% off single private sessions during the course of the series if there is anything you want more support with. This can be an opportunity to dive deeper into a certain area of interest or, as a lot of folks have done in the past, use this as a way to make up a missed group workshop. You will also have a one-on-one call with Dara prior to starting the series.

  • Additional resources and bonus practices will also be provided throughout our time together. Dara will be available for ongoing email support, or to set up additional calls to address your questions. Finally, as a participant in the Beginner Yoga Series you will also receive discounts on select DMWY services!

FAQs

Where do the sessions take place?

Weekly workshop sessions are held at DM Wellness & Yoga, located at 1131 42nd St. in Des Moines. The studio is on the west side of the Uptown Shopping center, south of Friedrich's Coffee. There are a few parking spaces on the south side of the building and ample parking to the north in the main Hy-Vee lot.

Do I need to bring anything to class?

Just yourself! A lot of students do choose to bring their own yoga mat and a water bottle, but we have everything that you’ll need on site at no additional cost. No need to stress about showing up with the right gear or outfit - as long as you can move comfortably, you’re all set!

What physical capabilities do I need to participate in this program?

This program can be adapted for most bodies, but will be most comfortable for you if you are able to get to the floor and back up to your feet without support. Please reach out to discuss any concerns.

I’m working through an injury - is this still appropriate for me?

Most likely, yes. There is a lot that we can work around, especially since this series combines a lot of different practices and education, so it certainly isn’t all physical. We’ll chat during intake if we haven’t worked together before just to be sure, but you are welcome to reach out via the form below with specific questions about your circumstance.

I have never tried yoga. Why is this the right starting point?

You won't get lost in the crowd here. This group will be kept small so that each person will receive the support they need to get comfortable with the practice. We focus on the comprehensive nature of the practice - not just physical poses, but also personal development through meditation, journaling, and breathwork. You don't need to be super flexible!

What if I know all the dates don’t work for me?

It’s typical to miss a session or two with a series of this length. We know life happens and we are happy to work with you! That’s also why you get a free 40-min private session and you will have access to discounted private sessions - folks often use these to catch up on something they missed from a group workshop. If we know ahead of time when you’ll be out, it’s even easier to make sure we get you caught up!
